Speaker | Lyle Burkell - Saskatoon Funeral Home

Lyle has been working with the Edwards Family business - Saskatoon Funeral Home - for more than 30 years. When he started in this business, almost all funerals took place at a church. Today, only about 35% of memorials are conducted at a church.

A funeral is a gathering to remember someone's life. The level of complexity has increased over the years. In the 1980's they may have played a favourite song of the deceased or family on a cassette deck. Now, funerals involve multimedia presentations and can even include live streaming of a funeral service over the internet to allow people to participate in another city.

Cremation has become more popular. Families are spread around the world so cremation before the service allows for extra time to delay a service until family members can arrive.

Saskatoon is far more multicultural than years ago so the Edwards Family business has adapted to the customs and requirements of each culture.
