Speaker | Lyle Burkell with Saskatoon Funeral Home

Edwards family started Saskatoon Funeral Home 100 years ago. Lyle has been there for 30 years. Green solution is all the rage right now. Cremation or burial is still highly debated. Newest is resumation which is reduction of the body by liquid. Body put in a silk bag and then a metal chamber filled with water and hydrogen chloride. This will be available in North America soon.

Many funeral homes are reverting back to the old mom and pop funeral homes from the large consolidators. Saskatoon Funeral Home also owns and operates Westwood Funeral Home, Prairieview Crematorium, Prairieview Chapel and Battleford Funeral Home. Saskatoon Funeral Home also had a partnership with the U of S until about 5 years ago due to accreditation in the field.

In Saskatoon 65-70% of people get cremated yet in Saskatchewan it is only %35.There is no legal status right now on the distribution of cremains.
