Executive Announcements

Joe Schmidt, our Past President, made our year end presentations to deserving members as follows:

Social Announcements

This was our 24th Annual Christmas Luncheon. Thanks to everyone attending. Thanks to the Radisson for the shrimp appetizers!

General Announcements

A presentation of appreciation (Christmas arrangement from Bill's House of Flowers) was made to Shirley, our regular server for many years at the hotel.

Our pot of gold and sergeant at arms savings are being donated to the "Tree of Plenty" campaign which supports the Food Bank. Additional donations were welcomed as everyone made their way out.

Speaker | Kent Smith-Windsor | Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce

Kent spoke to our group about Saskatoon's remarkable success over the last 18 months as well as the city's future prospects. His points can be roughly summarized as follows:

If we don't meet the competition head on (often lower cost foreign competition), prosperity can quickly decline.
We should prepare for even greater competition in the future.
It's not only competing for sales that we need to concentrate on, but also competing for the limited pool of talented employees.
Politicians can have a strong influence in developing the proper business climate through legislation and policies that encourage local investment and development.
Look for opportunities in problems rather than only fighting the problems.
Saskatoon's character is humility and modesty ... we tend to under-promise and over-deliver.
He believes that current rising prosperity in China and India in particular, will result in continuing prosperity for our city over the next 2 decades. Less developed nations want the resources and products that Saskatchewan has for sale. Their rising and continued prosperity is to our benefit, not to our detriment as some people might think.
"Be World Class ... or Dead Last".
