Speaker | John Thompson and Joan Tilk | Leadership Saskatoon

Leadership Saskatoon is a non-profit organization helping to develop community leaders. Joan is a graduate of the program from 2002. She spoke about her experience and how it inspired her to stay on with the organization as a volunteer mentor. John Thompson is the board chair. Together they explained how the program works and its benefits. Volunteers act as mentors and several day long workshops are run with program participants to help them achieve their full potential. We have been conditioned to think more about infrastructure such as roads and facilities when we think about the development and future of our communities. In actuality, strong leadership is the key to a community's healthy and prosperous future.

John and Joan both emphasized that leaders don't have to be bold and assertive. Leaders are usually enthusiastic participants and modest about their contributions. They also acknowledge and learn from their failures.
