Today was the 2nd reading for admitting Mike Jenkins as a member of the club.

Heather Whyte asked people to confirm by Friday December 14th if they are attending our Christmas noon luncheon on Wednesday December 19 2007. Remember to bring something for the gift exchange. The Renaissance Hotel will have free parking for people attending the luncheon.

General Announcements

Dale Grant of CHIP Hotels says that they have partnered with the Red Cross. They have reduced their room rates and in addition, $10.00 of each room they book over the next while goes to charity.

Speaker | Tom Kishchuk | Hitachi Canadian Industries Ltd.

Tom is the first Canadian born president of Hitachi Canadian Industries Ltd. He is a graduate of Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon.

Hitachi is in the business of building custom heavy industrial equipment used for power generation. They started business in Saskatoon in 1988 with only 25 employees. Now they have annual sales of about $45 million dollars and 300 employees. The payroll is $18 million dollars. 50% of the electricity used in Saskatchewan is generated via Hitachi turbines. Hitachi builds, among other things:

  • custom fabrication of pressure vessels
  • towers for wind turbines up to 80 metres tall. They can manufacture about 2.5 towers per week for use in Canada and the USA.
  • gas turbine casings
  • after sales service of steam turbines
90% of goods and services by Hitachi are exported outside of Saskatchewan.
