In the past, growth was based on more births than deaths. However, growth in the last while has been based on migration from other areas of Saskatchewan or Canada. Part of this came as the province moved from being more of an agricultural rural based population to an uban population. If we are going to grow in the future it needs to be through immigration from other countries such as Asia and the Middle East. Alan Wallace reviewed various new areas that the city will be developing in the next several years. City council has in the last few years been trying to return to balanced growth so that expansion will occur in the west side of the city instead of the east only. That is why many of the new neighbourhoods such as Blairmore and Hampton Village are planned for the west side.
