Speaker | Jeff Sharp | Colony Coffee And Tea Services

Colony Coffee is a Saskatchewan owned company. The owner is based in Regina. In addition to supplying coffee machines, coffees and tea to businesses in the Saskatoon trading area, Colony Coffee also sells expresso machines to bars and retaurants.

Jeff says that coffee coffee is grown in over 70 countries around the world. Arabica is the more expensive, larger bean and it is less bitter. This is the only type of coffee sold by Colony Coffee. Jeff says that robusta beans are the typical grocery store type of bean. They are cheaper, smaller and more bitter. Coffee can be sold as being all from one origin only or blended for consistency.

A newer type of coffee being sold is "Fair Trade Organic Coffee". This means that the grower gets a better price for their crop. PickNic's Restaurant purchase a fair amount of Fair Trade Organic Coffee.

Jeff says that if you drink between 2-6 cups of coffee per day, coffee can help improve your mood, level of alertness and possibly your health. Coffee reduces the risk of diabetes and several other diseases and is the largest source of antioxidants with tea being a distant second.

Jeff brought along several different coffee machines for viewing as well as a wide selection of coffees and teas. Some newer types of machines use individual pods so that each person can select the coffee or tea of their choice.

Jeff had two mugs to give away as door prizes.
