Executive Announcements

Welcome to Nicola Lawson, Chef and Owner of Pick Nic's Restaurant and Fine Pastries, 212 22nd Street East! Nicola is our newest member at the 722 Breakfast Club.

Members will recall that on our last meeting, a ballot was taken for input from the membership regarding spending some of the club's excess funds and the summer meetings issue. Brenda Thomsen announced that 38 out of 48 members voted and the results were as follows:

Members voted in favour of awarding 722 Club Dollars at each meeting to promote purchases with other members. Beginning with this meeting, a draw will be held each meeting for a $20 certificate that will be good for 3 weeks after issue. Our first winner was Victor Boryski.

We will also use some of our excess funds to subsidize the cost of a club social and some of it may be used to pay the expenses for an occassional outside guest speaker.

27 out of 38 votes were in favour of maintaining the summer break as it is so there will not be any change.

Speaker | Sharon Kaendo | Leisure Travel 2000 Inc.

Sharon has been a member of our club for just over 5 years and is serving her 4th year on the executive. She is married to Friets and has 4 daughters and 2 grandchildren. She also serves on other community boards, including acting as regional director of ACTA (International Travel Agents Association). Sharon has more than 20 years experience in the travel industry. In 1998 Sharon started her own travel business ... Leisure Travel 2000 Inc. ... after working in the travel industry many years for others. Leisure Travel 2000 offers a full range of travel products including everything from regional to international travel. Her business is mostly vacation travel but she does some corporate travel as well.

Sharon discussed the internet and how it affects her travel industry. She states that in one way it adds competition but customer service and and other problems can sometimes occur with internet based sales, so there has been a trend to move back to local agents where the service can be better. The internet also leads to more consumer knowledge and thus to more travel.

Sharon has travelled extensively herself. When she is away, she is on vacation but she is also working so that she can properly advise her customers as to what is available, places to see and problems to avoid. Ed Herbert won a draw by Sharon for a T-shirt and a second prize went to Errol Blatz.

Thanks for the presentation, Sharon.
